How is psychotherapy helpful?
Psychotherapy provides a space to work through thoughts and feelings that may not have a place to formulate anywhere else. Each therapeutic relationship is unique, resembling differences in lived experience and perspective.
Over the course of our meetings, we may explore complex thoughts, dynamics, and difficult feelings that we work through in partnership. Over time, emotionally distressing feelings will become easier to ‘be with’ and think through. Obscure and fragmented material will become more clear and more integrated. This process carries personal meaning for each individual and may foster greater self-understanding, closer relationships, and a fulfilling life.

What can I expect from our first meeting?
First meetings often engender feelings of hope, but also anxiety, because of the importance and personal nature of the work.
In our first session, we will begin to discuss your reasons for entering (or re-entering) therapy. We will explore your hopes for our work together, both in the near term and down the road. We will begin to develop a feel for what it is like to work with one another, and this will evolve over time.
What types of trauma do you work with?
I work with people of any gender identity who have experienced trauma stemming from discrimination, assault, emotional neglect, complex relationships, and/or the death of a loved one. I also work with sexual trauma survivors, including incest survivors.
Is what we discuss in therapy confidential?
Yes, I have a strong value for privacy. Additionally, what we discuss is bound by confidentiality through a federal law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPPA protects medical records and personal health information, including information regarding mental health. I provide documentation that outlines the details of confidentiality as it applies to psychotherapy.
How long are sessions and what is the frequency of sessions?
A standard therapy session for an individual is 45 minutes in duration. For couples, standard sessions are 50 minutes in length.
I offer extended-length or double sessions when beneficial and time permitting.
I meet with individuals and couples between one and three times per week, typically at the same time each week.
Do you meet in person?
Yes, I meet in person at my office, at West 51st and Broadway, in Manhattan. I offer telehealth sessions when meeting in person is not possible.
What is your fee structure?
My standard fee is $300 per session for individual psychotherapy and $350 per session when meeting with a couple. I believe in the importance of affordable psychotherapy, and I offer a sliding-scale fee structure in limited cases.
If we are not able to meet due to financial constraints, I can provide you with alternatives to consider.
Do you accept insurance?
I am a licensed “out of network” mental health care provider. Most insurance plans with “out of network” benefits will reimburse for a portion of the session cost (usually 50% to 80%) after a deductible is met. It is best to check directly with your insurance provider to determine if your insurance plan reimburses for “out-of-network” mental health.
I am intentionally an “out of network” provider versus an “in-network” provider because it allows for a higher standard of care and greater patient confidentiality. Read more about why here.
Are you accepting new patients?
I am accepting patients with limited availability. If you’re interested in working together, I’d like to hear from you.
